O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they cover, Lord of the seven earths and all they hold, Lord of the devils and all they mislead, Lord of the winds and all they scatter. I ask You for the good of this village (or settlement) and the good of its people, and the good of all that is within it. I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of its people, and the evil of all that is within it. I seek refuge in You from the lion and from creatures that crawl, from the serpent and the scorpion, and from the evil of the crawling creatures of the earth, and from the evil of all evil-doers. I seek refuge in You from the evil of the father and what he has begotten, and from the evil of the mother and what she has begotten, and from the evil of jinn and humankind, and from the evil of every beast whose forelock You are holding. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path.

Allahumma rabba as-samawat as-sab'i wa ma azlalna, wa rabba al-aradeena as-sab'i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adlalna, wa rabba ar-riyah wa ma dharrayna, as'aluka khayra hadhihi al-qaryati, wa khayra ahliha, wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha, wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min asadin wa wabarin, wa min al-hayyati wal-'aqrabi, wa min sharri sawammil-ardi, wa min sharri kulli dhee sharrin, wa min sharri al-walidi wa ma walada, wa min sharri al-walidati wa ma waladat, wa min sharri al-jinni wal-insi, wa min sharri kulli dabbatin anta akhidhun bi-nasiyatiha, inna Rabbi 'ala siratin mustaqim.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly potent when seeking protection for your children as they settle down to sleep, especially if you are traveling or staying in a new place. Reciting it before they drift off provides a powerful shield against unseen harms and anxieties, invoking Allah's safeguarding presence over them throughout the night.

How to Read

Recite this dua while placing your right hand gently on your child's head or beside them. Say it with sincere intention and conviction, focusing on Allah's power to protect. It's a beautiful practice to make this a part of your evening routine, teaching your children the importance of seeking Allah's shelter.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a request for comprehensive protection, covering all potential evils from both the seen and unseen worlds. By invoking Allah as the Lord of all creation, including the heavens, earths, devils, and winds, we acknowledge His absolute dominion and power. Seeking refuge from specific dangers like wild animals, reptiles, and even the evils of jinn and humans, along with the broader plea against 'every evil-doer' and 'every beast whose forelock You are holding,' ensures a holistic safeguard. It fosters a deep sense of security for both the child and the parent, knowing that Allah is the ultimate protector, guiding all matters justly.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach them [his grandsons Hasan and Husayn] these words as a protection against every poisonous creature, against every evil-doer and against every envious eye. He would then say: 'Indeed your father (meaning Ibrahim) used to protect Ishmael and Ishmael with these words.'
