اللَّهُمَّ اشْفِ سَعْدًا، اللَّهُمَّ اشْفِ سَعْدًا، اللَّهُمَّ اشْفِ سَعْدًا

O Allah, grant Sa'd his health. O Allah, grant Sa'd his health. O Allah, grant Sa'd his health.

Allahumma-shfi Sa'dan, Allahumma-shfi Sa'dan, Allahumma-shfi Sa'dan

When to Read

This dua is specifically for visiting a sick person, particularly an elderly one. When you visit an elderly relative or friend who is unwell, you can recite this dua for them, asking Allah to restore their health and well-being. It's beautiful to make dua directly for them, and also to offer a general prayer for healing. You can also make this dua when praying for any sick individual, adapting the name or simply asking for general healing.

How to Read

When visiting a sick elder, it is Sunnah to place your hand on their forehead or the place where the pain is felt, and to say the dua. Recite it with sincerity and focus, imagining Allah's mercy encompassing the person you are praying for. It's recommended to repeat the dua three times for emphasis, as the Prophet ﷺ did.

Virtues & Benefits

Making dua for a Muslim brother or sister is a profound act of worship. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that the dua of a Muslim for another Muslim in their absence is readily accepted. When we pray for the sick, especially our elders who have contributed so much to our lives, we are not only seeking their recovery but also showing them compassion and respect. This act strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood within the Ummah and brings immense blessings, Insha'Allah.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'The supplication of a person for his brother in his absence is answered. An angel is appointed to his side; whenever that person supplicates for his brother, the angel says: 'Amin (receive your response) and may the same be for you.' (Sahih Muslim 2732). In another narration regarding visiting the sick, Sa'd bin Abi Waqas fell ill, and the Prophet ﷺ visited him and said: 'O Allah, grant Sa'd his health. O Allah, make his supplication accepted.' Then he said: 'O Sa'd, why are you supplicating?' Sa'd said: 'I am supplicating for this young man who has been made to grow up in Your care.' (Sahih Muslim 1628, also found in Sunan Abi Dawud 3106 and others).
