Dua for Strength and Patience When Facing Terminal Illness

Sickness
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3502

O Allah, I ask You for patience at the time of decree, and the stations of the martyrs, and the life of the happy, and victory over enemies, and the companionship of life and its length, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the breast and the dispersion of affairs and the punishment of the grave. O Allah, grant us security from the terror of the Day of Resurrection, and make our affairs easy for us.

Allahumma inni as'aluk as-sabra 'ind al-qada', wa manazil ash-shuhada', wa 'aysh as-su'ada', wa an-nasra 'ala al-a'da', wa rifq al-hayah wa tul al-'umr, wa a'udhu bika min fitnat as-sadr, wa shatat al-amr, wa 'adhab al-qabr. Allahumma ammina min faza' yawm al-qiyamah, waj'al lana min amrina yusra.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is particularly relevant when facing the overwhelming challenges of a terminal illness. It's a plea for inner strength to accept Allah's divine decree, for comfort and solace during immense physical and emotional hardship, and for a peaceful end. Recite it during times of distress, after prayers, or whenever you feel your resolve weakening.

How to Read

This is a comprehensive supplication that encompasses seeking patience, a good life, protection from trials, and ease in one's affairs. It's best recited with sincerity and a humble heart, contemplating the meaning of each request. Raising your hands is customary for supplications, but even reciting it with a sincere heart without raising hands is beneficial. You can repeat it multiple times, especially after your obligatory prayers.
