Dua for Relief from Sleeplessness Due to Illness

Sickness
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2202

بِسْمِ اللهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ

In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and what I fear.

Bismillah, a'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you are experiencing physical discomfort or pain from an illness that prevents you from sleeping. It's a powerful invocation to turn to Allah when we feel vulnerable and are experiencing distress, acknowledging His ultimate power over our condition.

How to Read

Place your right hand on the part of your body that is hurting, if applicable. Recite 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) three times. Then, recite the full dua: 'A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir.' It is recommended to repeat this seven times, seeking Allah's protection and relief from the ailment that is causing sleeplessness. Maintaining sincerity (ikhlas) and certainty (yaqin) in Allah's response is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the pain and fear associated with illness. By seeking refuge in Allah's power, we acknowledge that He is the only one who can truly alleviate our suffering. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this supplication as a comprehensive means of protection against both present ailments and future anxieties, making it particularly useful when illness disrupts our rest and peace.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When one of you has a complaint of a disease which has occurred in his body, he should place his hand at the spot where he feels pain in his body and say: Bismillah (In the name of Allah) three times, and say seven times: A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir.' (Sahih Muslim 2202). The context here is general illness but it is perfectly applicable to the distress caused by sleeplessness due to sickness, as the pain and discomfort are the primary cause.
