‘Uthman b. Abi al-‘As reported: He complained to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ about a pain in his body which he had felt since his becoming Muslim. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said to him: Place your hand upon the place of pain in your body and say: Bismillah (In the name of Allah) three times and say seven times: A'udhu bi'izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru (I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and apprehend). My mother informed me that she had heard this from Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, and he commanded me to sit with him and teach me this invocation. (Sahih Muslim 2208a).
