Sickness
Sahih HadithKitab as-Salam (The Book of Salutations) 2202

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ (ثلاث مرات) أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ (سبع مرات)

In the Name of Allah (three times) I seek refuge with Allah and with His power from the evil that I find and that I fear (seven times).

Bismillah (three times) A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajid wa uhadhir (seven times)

When to Read

As we journey through life, our bodies naturally experience wear and tear. It's a part of Allah's design for our existence in this dunya. Whether it's the stiffness in your joints after a long day, a persistent ache in your back that wasn't there in your youth, or the general discomfort that can come with aging, this dua is a powerful means of seeking relief. The Prophet ﷺ taught this specific supplication when a Companion complained of a persistent pain, showing us that seeking medical help should always be accompanied by turning to Allah for ultimate healing and comfort. Recite this whenever you feel any bodily pain or discomfort, big or small, especially those aches that remind us of the passage of time.

How to Read

The Prophet ﷺ gave us very clear instructions for this dua, making it easy to practice: 1. **Place your hand:** Gently place your right hand directly on the area of your body where you feel the pain. This physical connection helps you focus your intention and brings the power of the words to the affected spot. 2. **Recite 'Bismillah' three times:** Begin by saying: > **Arabic:** بِسْمِ اللَّهِ > **Translation:** "In the Name of Allah." > **Transliteration:** *Bismillah* Do this three times, acknowledging Allah's name as the source of all blessings and healing. 3. **Recite the full dua seven times:** After the initial 'Bismillahs', say the following seven times, keeping your hand on the painful area: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ > **Translation:** "I seek refuge with Allah and with His power from the evil that I find and that I fear." > **Transliteration:** *A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajid wa uhadhir* Focus on the meaning, sincerely seeking Allah's refuge and protection from the pain you are experiencing and any potential harm it might lead to.

Uthman ibn Abi al-'As ath-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about pain he felt in his body since he embraced Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Place your hand on the place where you feel pain and say: 'Bismillah' (in the name of Allah) three times; and then say seven times: 'A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajid wa uhadhir' (I seek refuge with Allah and with His power from the evil that I find and that I fear)." — Sahih Muslim 2202
