Dua for Protection from the Sickness of Disobedience and Sin

Sickness
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek.

When to Read

This powerful dua is excellent to recite in the morning and evening, as the Prophet ﷺ used to do. It's particularly relevant when we feel ourselves slipping, tempted by sin, or when we fear the consequences of disobedience. Recite it when you feel spiritually weak, or simply as a regular act of seeking Allah's divine protection to keep your heart pure and your actions pleasing to Him.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Raise your hands as you would in supplication and imagine the immense mercy and protective power of Allah. Believe that He hears you and will protect you from spiritual ailments just as He protects the body from physical ones. Repeat it consistently, especially during the times recommended by the Sunnah.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encompasses seeking refuge from the most devastating spiritual losses: the loss of divine favor, the reversal of health and well-being granted by Allah, the shock of His retribution, and ultimately, falling into His anger. By reciting it, we actively acknowledge our reliance on Allah for spiritual fortitude and actively guard ourselves against the very real danger of disobedience, which can lead to a hardened heart and a distance from our Creator.

Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate with these words in the morning and evening: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.)" — Sahih Muslim 2739
