Sickness
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 5743 (Bukhari), 2191 (Muslim)

O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove this suffering. Heal, for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no ailment behind.

Allahumma Rabb an-nas, adh-hibil-ba's, ishfi antash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka shifa'an la yughadiru saqaman.

When to Read

This powerful dua is for anyone experiencing any kind of sickness, including serious ailments like liver disease. It's most effective when recited with sincere belief and supplication, ideally during times of quiet reflection, after prayers, or when feeling particularly unwell. Placing your hand on the site of pain while reciting it, as the Prophet ﷺ did, can also enhance its spiritual impact.

How to Read

Recite this dua with full conviction in Allah's ability to heal. It is recommended to repeat it seven times, a practice often mentioned in relation to seeking Allah's help in times of illness. Ensure you maintain purity (wudu) if possible, and face the Qiblah while making your supplication. The sincerity of your heart is paramount.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the essence of seeking healing directly from the Creator. It acknowledges Allah as the ultimate physician and recognizes that true recovery comes only from Him. The phrase 'a healing that leaves no ailment behind' expresses a complete and comprehensive cure. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ fell ill, he used to recite this very dua and blow over himself.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): When Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) fell ill, he would recite the Mu'awwidhat (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) and then blow his breath over himself. When his illness increased, I used to recite them over him and wipe him with his own hand, seeking its blessing. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5743) It was narrated from 'Aishah that when the Prophet (ﷺ) complained of the sickness he suffered in his final year, he could not recite it, so I recited it like he used to recite it, and he was pleased with that. Then I took his hand and put it on his chest hoping for its barakah (blessing). I said to him: 'O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm, heal him, for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no trace of sickness.' (Sahih Muslim 2191 - variant wording) Note: While the primary narration for this specific wording comes from the context of the Prophet's ﷺ illness where he recited Mu'awwidhat, the meaning and essence of seeking comprehensive healing is captured in the broader context of supplication for sickness. The specific wording 'Allahumma Rabb an-nas...' is widely documented as a general supplication for healing taught by the Prophet ﷺ.
