بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقُ بَعْضِنَا، يَشْفِي سَقِيمَنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا
In the name of Allah, with the soil of our earth, and the saliva of some of us, our sick will be healed by the permission of our Lord.
Bismillahi, turbatu ardina, biriqqu ba'dina, yashfi saqeemana, bi-idni rabbina.
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent when dealing with physical ailments that persist, like a severe cough. You can recite it when you feel the cough worsening or when you are seeking direct intervention from Allah for relief. It's also beneficial to say it as a general prayer for healing when you are unwell.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ demonstrated a beautiful method of healing using this dua. He would take the soil of his land, mix it with his saliva, and then say this dua while applying it to the afflicted area. For a persistent cough, you can adapt this by, for example, placing your hand over your chest or throat while reciting it, or by mixing a small amount of pure water with a pinch of clean soil (if available and permissible for medicinal use in your context) and applying it to your chest or throat, all while having sincere belief in Allah's power to heal. The key is the intention and the sincere supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua embodies Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) while also taking practical steps. It teaches us that healing comes from Allah alone, even when using means. The Prophet's ﷺ action shows us how to combine spiritual recourse with physical remedies. It reminds us that even something as simple as earth and saliva, when combined with Allah's command and our sincere dua, can be a source of profound healing. This act of seeking healing through the Prophet's ﷺ Sunnah can bring immense barakah (blessing) and closeness to Allah.

‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: When any person among us was sick, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would rub his hand (on the afflicted part of his body) and say: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقُ بَعْضِنَا، يَشْفِي سَقِيمَنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا 'In the name of Allah, with the soil of our earth, and the saliva of some of us, our sick will be healed by the permission of our Lord.'
