Recite it as you feel the difficulty, asking Allah to protect you from the harm and to ease your suffering.

How to Read

Start by remembering Allah's name (Bismillah). Then, with sincere conviction, declare your seeking of refuge in Allah and His might. You can repeat it multiple times, especially before attempting to eat or drink, or whenever the discomfort arises.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking protection from both the present pain ('what I find') and the potential worsening of the condition ('what I fear'). It's a comprehensive plea to Allah for relief and safety from illness. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to address physical ailments, demonstrating its efficacy in seeking Allah's direct intervention for healing and well-being. By reciting it, we acknowledge that ultimate power and protection lie with Allah alone.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Uthman ibn Abi al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about a pain he had felt in his body since becoming Muslim. Allah's Messenger ﷺ said to him: 'Place your hand on the part of your body where you feel pain and say: Bismillāhi, a'ūdhu billāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa uhādhira (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I find and what I fear).' He said: 'I did that, and Allah took away the pain from my body, and I have continued to say it like that.'
