O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all of my affairs and do not entrust me to my own soul even for the span of an eye-blink.
Ya hayyu ya qayyum birahmatik' astagheeth, aslih li sha'ni kullahu, wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata 'ayn.
When to Read
Recite this dua when you feel your hard work and contributions are going unnoticed. It's a powerful supplication to turn to when the weight of feeling unappreciated settles in, seeking Allah's direct intervention in setting your affairs right and preventing you from being left to your own limitations.
How to Read
Recite with sincere conviction, focusing on the meaning of the words. Direct your plea to Allah alone, acknowledging His power and mercy. It's best recited with hands raised, as was the Prophet's ﷺ practice during supplication, especially when seeking critical assistance. Repeat it regularly during times of sadness or frustration over unrecognized efforts.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is incredibly comprehensive. It addresses our need for Allah's constant sustaining power ('Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum'). Seeking His mercy ('birahmatik') is the key to all good. Asking Him to 'rectify all my affairs' ('aslih li sha'ni kullahu') encompasses every aspect of life, including the emotional turmoil of feeling unrecognized. The crucial phrase 'wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata 'ayn' ('and do not entrust me to my own soul even for the span of an eye-blink') highlights our utter dependence on Allah, which is the true source of strength and peace when worldly recognition is absent.
Source & Authentication
Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O people, there is no one among you who has performed ablution and then said: 'Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdik, ash-hadu al-la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance) – except that it will be sealed with a seal and not broken until the Day of Resurrection." Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, it will be sealed with a seal and it will not be broken until the Day of Resurrection.'" (This is the narration from Tirmidhi). He also said: "...and if he said: 'Ya hayyu ya qayyum birahmatik' astagheeth, aslih li sha'ni kullahu, wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata 'ayn' (O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all of my affairs and do not entrust me to my own soul even for the span of an eye-blink) – except that Allah will assist him regarding his affairs, both this world and the hereafter."
