Dua for Sadness When Feeling Unseen by Others

Sadness
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3500

O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sadness, and a reliever of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitadika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This dua is profoundly comforting when you feel overlooked, misunderstood, or alone in your struggles. It's especially potent during times of deep sadness, when the weight of feeling unseen by others presses down on your heart. Recite it when you feel isolated, when your efforts seem unnoticed, or when your pain feels like a secret burden no one else can perceive.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a hopeful heart. Raise your hands as you did when asking Allah for something. Focus on the meaning of each word, internalizing the plea to Allah. Understand that He sees you, even when people don't. Place your trust in His divine wisdom and His ability to alleviate your sorrow. It's beautiful to reflect on how the Quran itself is presented as a source of healing for grief and worry.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly asks Allah to make the Quran the cure for sadness and anxiety. It highlights the immense power of the divine word to heal the heart and bring solace. When you feel unseen, remembering that Allah sees and hears you, and turning to His Book for light and comfort, is a profound source of strength. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to address our deepest emotional needs, linking our spiritual well-being to the guidance and mercy found in the Quran.

Source & Authentication

Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, "No person is afflicted with grief and sadness, and then says: Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitadika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi. (O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sadness, and a reliever of my anxiety) – except that Allah will take away his grief and sadness, and replace them with joy." It was said: O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn these words? The Prophet ﷺ said: Yes, it is recommended for everyone who hears them to learn them. (Reported by Ahmad, and it is a Hasan narration. See Sahih al-Jami' 6038).
