Dua for Sadness When Facing the Loss of Innocence

Sadness
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 23947

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept exclusively unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxieties.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to a man who had suffered greatly from distress and grief. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Shall I not teach you words that, if you were to utter them, Allah would remove your distress and grief, and substitute ease in its place? So he said: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept exclusively unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxieties.' The companions asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He replied: 'Yes, it is essential for everyone who hears them to learn them.' (Narrated by Ahmad)
