O Allah, forgive my every sin, the minor and the major, the first and the last, the open and the secret. O Allah, You are the First, before Whom nothing is; You are the Last, after Whom nothing is; You are the Apparent, above Whom nothing is; You are the Hidden, closer than whom nothing is. Settle our debts for us and enrich us from poverty.
Allahumma-ghfirli dhanbi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, awwalahu wa akhirahu, wa 'alaaniyatihi wa sirrahu, wa da'watahu wa khatee'atahu. Allahumma Antal-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay'un, wal-Antal-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay'un, wal-Anta Al-Dhahiru falaysa fawqaka shay'un, wal-Anta Al-Batinu falaysa doonaka shay'un, aqdi 'anna ad-dayna, wa aghnina minal-faqr.
When to Read
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself, is a comprehensive supplication for repentance and seeking Allah's forgiveness. We can make it part of our daily remembrance, especially after prayers or during the times when supplications are readily answered, like the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah. It's particularly beneficial when we feel the weight of our shortcomings and desire to turn back to Allah with a sincere heart.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a genuine sense of reliance on Allah. Understand the profound meaning of each phrase: acknowledging Allah's absolute dominion over time and existence, His omnipresence, and His complete knowledge of all things. Express your need for His forgiveness and provision. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly as you make this dua, a sign of earnest seeking from your Lord. The Prophet ﷺ would often repeat his supplications three times, so repeating this dua thrice would be a beautiful way to emulate his practice.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses multiple pillars of our faith. Firstly, it’s a profound act of Tawbah (repentance), acknowledging our sins and seeking Allah's pardon. Secondly, it’s a declaration of Tawheed, recognizing Allah's unique attributes of being the First, Last, Apparent, and Hidden. This strengthens our belief and humility. Thirdly, it includes a request for relief from debt and poverty, demonstrating that tawbah also involves seeking Allah's help for our worldly needs, trusting in His ability to provide. By seeking forgiveness and acknowledging Allah's power, we open the doors to His mercy and potential acceptance of our deeds, as He is the Most Forgiving and Most Merciful.

Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): A Madinah beggar asked for something, and he (the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) gave him something. Then another beggar asked for something, and he gave him something. Then he said: 'O Allah, forgive me my sins, my errors, my shortcomings, my ignorance, and my transgressions. O Allah, I have wronged myself a great deal, and none but You can forgive sins. So, forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy on me, for You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful. O Allah, grant me sound health in my body, hearing in my ears, sight in my eyes, and keep me in good health. Grant me sustenance and a good character, and turn me away from evil, for You are the Most Capable of all things.' He said this thrice. Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, sustenance that is pure, and deeds that are acceptable.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and wealth.' He also used to say: 'O Allah, forgive me my mistake and my ignorance, my excess in my affair and my mischief, which I know and which I do not know. O Allah, forgive me my joke and my seriousness, my error and my deliberate act, and all of that is with me. I ask You, by your might, O Allah, that You do not afflict me with anything which spoils patience. O Allah, grant me sound health in my body, hearing in my ears, sight in my eyes, and keep me in good health. Grant me sustenance that is lawful. O Allah, indeed I ask You for contentment after a decree (of Your preordained plan), and a pleasant life after death. O Allah, I ask You for the pleasure of looking at Your noble countenance, and the longing to meet You, without any harm and without any trials that would lead me astray. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith and make us Guides, rightly guided. O Allah, indeed I ask You for Paradise and what brings me closer to it in word or deed, and I seek refuge in You from the Hellfire and what brings me closer to it in word or deed. And I ask You that You make every decree that You decree for me good.' He also used to say: 'O Allah, forgive me my error and my ignorance, and my excess in my affair and my mischief, which I know and which I do not know. O Allah, forgive me my joke and my seriousness, my error and my deliberate act, and all of that is with me. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'O Allah, forgive me my sin entirely, the small of it and the large of it, the first of it and the last of it, the apparent of it and the hidden of it. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You; You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; You are the Apparent, so there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, so there is nothing nearer than You. Settle our debts for us and enrich us from poverty.'
