โœฆ

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakoonanna minal-khasireen

When to Read

This is the very first prayer uttered by mankind after the initial mistake. It serves as a profound reminder of our inherent need for Allah's forgiveness and mercy, especially when we recognize our own shortcomings. We can turn to this dua whenever we feel we've erred, made a mistake, or fallen short of our own aspirations in pleasing Allah.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere repentance and a deep understanding of its meaning. Acknowledge your wrongdoings to Allah alone, with humility and a clear intention to do better. Recognize that forgiveness and mercy are solely in His hands.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua marks the beginning of humanity's relationship with Allah based on repentance and seeking forgiveness. It highlights the core Islamic principle that acknowledging our sins is the first step towards seeking Allah's mercy. By uttering these words, Adam (peace be upon him) and Hawwa (Eve) were shown the path back to Allah's favor, demonstrating that no sin is too great for Allah's boundless forgiveness when sought sincerely.
