Tahajjud Dua for Repentance

Repentance & Tawbah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2710

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done and the evil of what I have not done.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa min sharri ma lam a'mal.

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when recited during Tahajjud (night prayer). The stillness of the night, when the world is asleep, is a prime time for sincere supplication and seeking forgiveness. It can also be recited at any other time when one feels the need to repent and seek Allah's protection.

How to Read

Recite this dua with heartfelt sincerity, ideally after offering Tahajjud prayers. Raise your hands in supplication as you would during du'a. Reflect on the meaning of each phrase, acknowledging your shortcomings and Allah's boundless mercy and power. It's a dua that encapsulates seeking refuge from all forms of spiritual and worldly harm, stemming from our actions or inactions.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks Allah's protection from losing His blessings, the reversal of good health and well-being, His sudden wrath, and anything that incurs His displeasure. It also profoundly asks for refuge from the consequences of both our committed sins and those we may have failed to avoid, highlighting a comprehensive reliance on Allah for protection and forgiveness. Reciting this during Tahajjud amplifies its significance, as night prayers are a time when the servant draws closest to Allah.

Abu Sa'id said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of what he created. He used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.
