أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan.
A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem
When to Read
This foundational supplication should be uttered whenever you feel the onset of doubts, intrusive thoughts, or whispers (waswasa) from Shaytan. It's particularly useful at the beginning of any act of worship, when making du'a, or even during daily tasks when such distractions arise. It's a preemptive measure to ward off Shaytan's influence before it takes root.
How to Read
Recite this phrase sincerely, with the firm intention of seeking Allah's protection. Imagine yourself actively turning away from Shaytan's influence and turning towards Allah's encompassing mercy and strength. It's best said aloud when alone or silently when in the company of others, while maintaining a state of purity if possible.
Virtues & Benefits
This simple yet powerful phrase is a direct instruction from the Quran (Al-Mu'minun 23:97) and is reinforced by the Sunnah. By invoking Allah's name and seeking His refuge, we acknowledge our reliance on Him and His power over Shaytan. It’s the first line of defense against the psychological warfare Shaytan wages, aiming to corrupt our faith, sow confusion, and weaken our resolve. It reminds us that we are not alone in this struggle and that Allah is sufficient for us.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When any of you wants to recite the Quran, he should seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, the rejected one. Then he should recite: 'I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, the rejected one.' - Abu Dawud 775, Sahih. The Quranic verse is: 'And say, 'My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the suggestions of devils.' (Al-Mu'minun 23:97).
