O people, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [Final] Hour is a terrible thing. On the Day you see it, every nursing mother will [forget] what she nursed, and every pregnant one will miscarry her burden, and you will see people [appearing] as if they are drunk, but they will not be drunk. And the punishment of Allah is severe.

When to Read

This ayah is a powerful reminder of Allah's might and the gravity of the Day of Judgment. It's particularly relevant when traveling, as travel itself can be a journey that exposes us to new environments and potential distractions, or even dangers. Reciting this ayah, especially during moments of reflection while on a journey, can serve as a potent reminder to remain conscious of Allah and seek His forgiveness for any shortcomings or sins committed, whether knowingly or unknowingly, during the travel.

How to Read

While there isn't a specific prescribed dua for sins committed *during* travel in this exact form, the principle of seeking forgiveness is paramount. One can reflect on this ayah, contemplating its meaning and its implications for their own life, especially when far from their usual environment. Following this reflection, one can sincerely turn to Allah, making a personal dua for forgiveness, acknowledging that Allah is Ar-Rahman (The Most Gracious) and Ar-Rahim (The Most Merciful). The general etiquette of making dua applies: sincerity, humility, and turning one's heart completely towards Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

Reflecting on the verses of Al-Hajj 22:1-2 serves as a profound reminder of accountability and the ultimate return to Allah. It instills a sense of awe and reverence, encouraging us to be mindful of our actions, especially when venturing out. This mindfulness can lead to greater vigilance against sin. Furthermore, a sincere reflection on the Day of Judgment naturally prompts repentance and seeking Allah's forgiveness, which is a cornerstone of Tawbah (repentance) and a means of purifying the heart.
