O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent to recite when you feel the weight of debt pressing down on you, or when worry about your financial situation becomes a source of stress. It's also excellent to make a habit of reciting it regularly, perhaps after your obligatory prayers, as a proactive measure against these afflictions.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, understanding the meaning of each phrase. Imagine yourself asking Allah for His protection. It's best recited with your hands raised, as is the practice during supplication, and ideally facing the Qiblah. Repeat it multiple times for emphasis.
Virtues & Benefits
This profound dua, taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, offers comprehensive protection. It seeks refuge from emotional burdens like distress and sorrow, and from practical hindrances like weakness and sloth. Crucially, it specifically asks Allah to shield us from the crippling burden of debt ('ghalabatid-dayn') and from being overcome or oppressed by others ('qahrir-rijal'). This means not only seeking relief from existing debt but also protection from falling into such situations in the first place. By acknowledging our need for Allah's help in overcoming these struggles, we open the doors for His mercy and assistance.
