O Allah, indeed I have wronged myself with much wrong, and none can forgive sins except You. So, forgive me with forgiveness from You, and have mercy upon me. Indeed, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman katheeran, wa la yaghfirudh-dhunooba illa anta, faghfir li maghfiratan min 'indika, warhamni innaka antal Ghafoorur Raheem.
When to Read
This dua is for anyone who has misappropriated an orphan's property and seeks sincere repentance. It should be recited with deep regret and a firm intention to rectify the wrong, ideally after recognizing the gravity of the sin and having already taken steps to return what was unjustly taken.
How to Read
Recite this dua with a sincere heart, acknowledging your wrongdoing. Raise your hands in supplication as a sign of humility and dependence on Allah. Utter the words clearly, focusing on their meaning and seeking Allah's forgiveness and mercy. It is also important to actively seek to return the property or compensate the orphan for any loss incurred, as repentance without action is incomplete.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua encapsulates the essence of Tawbah (repentance) by acknowledging one's sins, recognizing that only Allah can forgive, and directly asking for His forgiveness and mercy. Misappropriating an orphan's property is a severe sin, carrying heavy consequences in this life and the next. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Avoid the seven destructive things...' and among them, he mentioned, 'consuming the property of an orphan' (Sahih al-Bukhari 2766, Sahih Muslim 2617). This dua, when coupled with sincere remorse and action to rectify the wrong, is a pathway to seeking Allah's forgiveness for such a grave transgression.

The full hadith context relates to the dua taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to say when going to sleep: 'Allahumma bismika ahya wa amoot' (O Allah, with Your name I live and die). The mentioned hadith (Sahih al-Bukhari 403) is a general supplication taught by the Prophet ﷺ, emphasizing the acknowledgement of sin and seeking Allah's forgiveness and mercy. While this specific dua is not exclusively for misappropriating orphan's property, its comprehensive nature makes it perfectly suited for seeking repentance from any major sin, including this one.
