โœฆ

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakoonanna minal khasireen

When to Read

This is a foundational dua for anyone seeking to repent and turn back to Allah. It can be recited at any time, especially after committing a sin, when reflecting on one's shortcomings, or during times of distress and need for Allah's mercy.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere remorse and a firm intention to not repeat the sin. Raise your hands (if appropriate for the situation and not a formal prayer) and feel the weight of your actions, coupled with profound hope in Allah's boundless mercy. It is recommended to say it with conviction, believing that Allah is All-Forgiving and All-Merciful.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly acknowledges our wrongdoings ('we have wronged ourselves') while placing all hope in Allah's forgiveness and mercy. It's a powerful expression of humility and reliance on the Creator. The Quran itself teaches us this dua, showing its importance. By uttering it, we are actively seeking Allah's pardon and acknowledging that true loss is to be deprived of His forgiveness. The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ said: 'Indeed, Allah, the Blessed and Most High, has hands, and the right hand of the Lord is blessed. He stretches out His right hand during the night to forgive those who sinned by day, and He stretches out His left hand during the day to forgive those who sinned by night.' (Sahih Muslim 112). This hadith highlights Allah's continuous willingness to accept repentance.
