Dua for Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness for Sins that Block Blessings

Repentance & Tawbah
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3233

O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. And when You intend to test Your servants, take me to Yourself without subjecting me to trials. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'l-khayrat, wa tarkal-munkarat, wa hubbal-masakin, wa idha aradta bi'ibadika fitnatan, fa tawaffani ilayka ghayra maftun. As'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalinyuqarribuni ila hubbik.

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect for any time you feel distant from Allah, or when you sense that your sins might be creating a barrier to His blessings. It's particularly fitting after salah, during the late hours of the night, or whenever you make sincere repentance (tawbah).

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. Imagine Allah's immense mercy. Visualize yourself doing good, leaving bad, and loving those whom Allah loves. Raise your hands in supplication as you ask. Try to reflect on each phrase and its meaning, truly asking Allah for His love and the love of deeds that draw you nearer to Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly asks Allah for the ability to perform good deeds and abstain from forbidden acts, which are the foundations of a righteous life. Loving the poor is a sign of a pure heart. Asking to be taken before being tested by trials is a sign of deep faith and reliance on Allah. Most importantly, it seeks Allah's love, the love of those who love Him, and the love of actions that bring one closer to the Divine. Cultivating this love can open doors to immense blessings and spiritual contentment, while also cleansing one from the effects of sins that block them.
