O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the discontinuation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhitik.
When to Read
This dua is incredibly comprehensive and should be recited regularly, especially when feeling overwhelmed by the consequences of one's sins. It's particularly poignant after committing a sin and feeling a deep sense of regret and fear of Allah's punishment or the loss of His blessings. Reciting it in the morning and evening, as the Prophet ﷺ instructed for other supplications, is also highly recommended.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a contrite heart. Understand that every word is a plea to Allah for His protection. Focus on the meaning of seeking refuge from the loss of blessings, the removal of well-being, the suddenness of His anger, and anything that might displease Him. This is a supplication that requires active remembrance of Allah's power and mercy. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though it's not a strict condition for seeking refuge.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers immense benefits. Firstly, it directly addresses the fear and anxiety that can grip a person after sinning, by seeking refuge in Allah from His displeasure and punishment. Secondly, it safeguards against the loss of *ni'mah* (blessings) and *'afiyah* (well-being), which are often what we fear losing the most when we feel we've strayed. By seeking refuge from 'sudden punishment', we are asking Allah to give us time to repent and turn back to Him. It's a holistic prayer for divine protection against the worst possible outcomes, both in this life and the next, and a profound statement of reliance on Allah alone.

Yahya related to me from Malik, from 'Abd Allah ibn Dinar, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say: > **Arabic:** «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ، وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ» > **Translation:** "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the discontinuation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your displeasure." This supplication was part of the Prophet's ﷺ regular practice, highlighting its importance in seeking Allah's continuous favor and protection.
