Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.
Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakoonanna minal khasiroon
When to Read
Recite this dua whenever you feel overwhelmed by worldly distractions, have fallen into sin due to them, or feel a disconnect from your deen. It's particularly potent when you recognize your own shortcomings and genuinely desire a return to Allah.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and a heavy heart, acknowledging your faults before Allah. Raise your hands if possible, as is customary for dua. Believe firmly that Allah is Ar-Rahman (The Most Compassionate) and Al-Ghafoor (The Most Forgiving), and that He loves to forgive those who turn to Him.
Virtues & Benefits
This is the dua of our parents, Adam and Hawa (peace be upon them), after they ate from the forbidden tree. Their sincere repentance and plea for forgiveness were accepted by Allah. Reciting this reminds us of our Lord's mercy and that even after mistakes, turning back to Him with humility can lead to His acceptance and forgiveness. It directly addresses the core of acknowledging our own wrongdoing ('zalamna anfusana') and the desperate need for Allah's mercy to avoid ultimate loss.
