โœฆ

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa il lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakoonanna minal khasiroon

When to Read

This profound dua is for when you realize you've wronged someone or committed an act that was unjust, whether intentionally or unintentionally. It's a sincere plea to Allah (SWT) immediately after acknowledging your transgression, seeking His forgiveness and mercy to rectify the situation and prevent further loss in this life and the hereafter.

How to Read

Recite this dua with a sincere heart, full of regret for the injustice committed and a strong resolve to not repeat it. Understand the weight of the words: acknowledging your own wrongdoing ('we have wronged ourselves'), and acknowledging that only Allah's forgiveness and mercy can save you from the ultimate loss. Utter it with humility and a deep sense of need for His grace. It's best recited in a quiet place where you can reflect, but its power lies in its sincerity, so it can be said anytime you feel the pang of regret.

Virtues & Benefits

This ayah, recited by our father Adam (peace be upon him) and Hawwa (may Allah be pleased with her) after their mistake in Paradise, teaches us the essential components of true repentance: acknowledging the sin, taking responsibility, and seeking Allah's mercy. It highlights that the greatest injustice is against oneself by disobeying Allah. By reciting this, we are following the prophetic example of seeking immediate forgiveness and acknowledging our utter dependence on Allah for salvation. It opens the door to Allah's immense forgiveness and prevents us from being among those who lose out on His blessings and eternal reward.
