O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, and to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. And when You intend for Your creation a trial, take me to Yourself without having subjected me to it. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.
Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'l al-khayrat, wa tark al-munkarat, wa hubb al-masakin, wa idha aradta fi khalqika fitnatan fa tawaffani ghayra maftun. As'aluka hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.
When to Read
This powerful dua is perfect for those moments when you feel you've faltered, fallen into a sin, or simply fallen short of your own aspirations for goodness. Recite it right after realizing your weakness, perhaps after praying Fajr or Asr, or any time you feel the need for a spiritual reset. It's especially potent when you feel the pull of temptation or the sting of regret.
How to Read
Make this dua with sincerity and humility. Turn to Allah with a sincere heart, acknowledging your need for His guidance and strength. Raise your hands in supplication, as is the practice when asking Allah for something. Imagine yourself asking a loving parent who desires only the best for you. It's also beneficial to follow this up with immediate acts of repentance, such as asking for forgiveness and striving to correct the mistake.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses a comprehensive request for a life pleasing to Allah. It asks for the ability to perform good, shun evil, and cultivate compassion for the less fortunate. Crucially, it seeks protection from trials that could lead one astray and asks for the love of Allah, which is the ultimate goal. As the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught, 'The best of deeds is to love Allah and His Messenger' (Sahih al-Bukhari 4839). This dua directly seeks that love and the love of things that bring one closer to Him, making it a cornerstone for spiritual growth and renewal.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked him to teach him some words to say. This emphasizes the direct transmission of such vital supplications from the Prophet ﷺ to his companions, indicating its immense importance for the Ummah.
