Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3597

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ مُنْكَرَاتِ الأَخْلاَقِ، وَالأَعْمَالِ، وَالأَهْوَاءِ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the detestable morals, deeds, and desires.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min munkaratil-akhlaqi wal-a'mali wal-ahwa'i

When to Read

This is a profound dua for anyone struggling with internal battles, especially during Ramadan. As we fast, our bodies may feel weaker, but our spiritual resolve needs to be stronger than ever. Inner doubts and temptations can try to creep in, whispering negativity or urging us away from our devotion. Recite this dua regularly, particularly during suhoor, after prayers, or whenever you feel these whispers intensifying. It's a shield against the internal onslaught that can distract us from maximizing the blessings of this sacred month.

How to Read

Raise your hands slightly in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Utter the Arabic words with sincerity and a heartfelt realization of your need for Allah's protection. Imagine yourself encased in Allah's protective mercy as you say it. Repeat it multiple times, especially during the blessed times of Ramadan like the last ten nights or the hours before Fajr.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah from negative morals, deeds, and desires is crucial for spiritual purification. During Ramadan, our goal is to cleanse ourselves from sin and draw closer to our Creator. This dua directly addresses the internal struggles that can hinder our progress. By asking for protection, we are acknowledging that our strength to resist temptation comes solely from Allah. This strengthens our resolve and keeps our hearts focused on worship, rather than being swayed by negative influences.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min munkaratil-akhlaqi wal-a'mali wal-ahwa'i.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the detestable morals, deeds, and desires). This hadith was narrated by Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). The scholars have classified the hadith as Hasan. It emphasizes the importance of seeking Allah's protection not just from external evils, but also from those that arise within our own selves – our character, our actions, and our desires.
