Mu’adh ibn Zuhrah reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say upon breaking his fast: ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ Translation: 'The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.' — Sunan Abi Dawud 2357 For context on the virtues of fasting Ashura, Abu Qatadah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah (9th Dhul-Hijjah). He said, 'It expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.' He was asked about fasting on the Day of Ashura (10th Muharram). He said, 'It expiates the sins of the previous year.' He was asked about fasting on Monday. He said, 'That is the day on which I was born and the day on which I was sent (as a Messenger) or on which revelation came to me.' — Sahih Muslim 1162
