O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove this suffering, heal him (or her), for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no disease.
Allahumma Rabb an-nas, adh-hibil-ba's, ashfi anta ash-shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifa'an la yughadiru saqama.
When to Read
This dua is particularly poignant when a person who is fasting finds themselves unwell during Ramadan. It can be recited at any time, but is especially potent during the sacred month, whether it's before breaking the fast, after Suhoor, or at any point during the day or night when one feels the need for Allah's healing. When sickness strikes during fasting, it can feel doubly challenging, but this dua offers a direct line to the One who controls all remedies.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction in Allah's ability to heal. Place your hand on the site of pain or discomfort while reciting, if applicable. Focus on the meaning of the words – acknowledging Allah as the ultimate healer and seeking His perfect, complete recovery. It is recommended to repeat it multiple times and to combine it with other supplications for health and well-being.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his companions when they sought a cure, is a direct supplication to Allah, the Lord of all people. It acknowledges His unique power to heal and seeks a recovery that is absolute and lasting. Reciting it with faith can bring immense comfort, reduce anxiety, and open the doors to divine healing, especially when one is already undergoing the spiritual discipline of fasting, which itself has healing properties. The Prophet's ﷺ own practice shows us the importance of turning to Allah in times of sickness.

Hisham bin Urwah narrated from 'Abdullah bin az-Zubair, from his father, who said: ‘When the Prophet ﷺ complained (of illness) and the strong pangs of illness were upon him, the Jibril came and said: ‘Muhammad, are you complaining?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you from everything that might harm you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah cure you. In the name of Allah, I perform Ruqyah for you.’ And he added: 'O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove this suffering, heal him (or her), for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no disease.' (Sahih Muslim 2191 - this is a related narration emphasizing the healing aspect and the words used are very similar and widely accepted as the core dua for healing. The version in Bukhari is more concise and directly attributed as the Prophet's ﷺ prayer.) Sahih al-Bukhari 5743 states: The Prophet ﷺ used to recite: > **Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ البَاسَ، اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لاَ شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لاَ يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا > **Translation:** 'O Allah, Lord of the people, remove the illness, heal (him/her), for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no trace of illness.'
