Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah from four things in his prayers: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hell, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death.' (Sahih Muslim 589). While this specific dua is a distinct supplication, it reflects the Prophet’s ﷺ comprehensive approach to seeking Allah’s protection and blessings in all aspects of life. The Sunan Abi Dawud narration (869) where the Prophet ﷺ advised a man asking how to ask Allah, to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' is also a foundational principle. The dua provided here ('Allahumma ighfir li, warhamni, wahdini, warzuqni, wa 'afini') is a beautiful, encompassing supplication often taught for general well-being and seeking Allah's complete favor. It’s found in numerous sources, indicating its widespread use and importance.
