O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove this suffering. Heal him, for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no disease behind.
Allahumma Rabb an-nas, adhibil-ba's, ishfi anta ash-shafi, la shifaa'a illa shifaa'uka, shifaa'an la yughadiru saqama.
When to Read
This dua is especially poignant for someone who is ill while observing the fast. It can be recited at any time during the day, particularly during the blessed hours of Ramadan, or at the time of breaking the fast when duas are more likely to be answered. It's a prayer for anyone suffering from illness, but carrying it during a fast adds a layer of seeking ease from the discomfort of sickness compounded by the rigors of fasting.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and firm belief in Allah's power to heal. Place your hand on the area of pain or illness, if applicable, while reciting. Focus on seeking Allah's mercy and relief, acknowledging that all healing comes from Him alone. It's a personal supplication, so reciting it with humility and earnestness is key.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication carries immense weight as it was taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be recited over the sick. It acknowledges Allah as the ultimate physician and seeks a complete and lasting cure. For someone fasting with illness, this dua offers solace, the hope of divine intervention, and the comfort of knowing Allah hears their plea, even amidst physical weakness and the demands of the fast.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to visit the sick and recite this dua, placing his right hand on the sick person and saying: "Allahumma Rabb an-nas, adhibil-ba's, ishfi anta ash-shafi, la shifaa'a illa shifaa'uka, shifaa'an la yughadiru saqama." (O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove this suffering. Heal him, for You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing that leaves no disease behind.) — Sahih al-Bukhari 5675. This practice highlights the Prophet's ﷺ compassion and the importance of seeking Allah's help directly during times of affliction.
