Ramadan & Fasting
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5743

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تُرْبَةُ أَرْضِنَا، بِرِيقِ بَعْضِنَا، شِفَاءُ سَقِيمِنَا، بِإِذْنِ رَبِّنَا.

In the name of Allah, with the soil of our land and the saliva of some of us, may our sick be healed by the permission of our Lord.

Bismillahi, turbatu ardina, biriqi ba'dina, shifa'u saqeemina, bi'idni rabbina.

When to Read

This dua is particularly relevant for someone experiencing illness during the month of Ramadan. When a believer feels unwell while fasting, they can recite this dua, seeking Allah's healing while acknowledging the difficulty their body is facing. It's a prayer for restoration, recognizing that even during a spiritual act like fasting, physical ailments can arise.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a form of ruqyah (incantation for healing) using a mixture of his saliva and soil from the earth. While we may not replicate the exact method, the essence is to recite it with sincere belief and trust in Allah's power to heal. For someone fasting, it's about turning to Allah in supplication, acknowledging their condition and seeking relief without breaking their fast, unless medically advised otherwise.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua embodies a profound reliance on Allah for healing, using natural elements as a means. It highlights the belief that ultimate recovery is from Allah alone, even when physical remedies are employed. For the fasting individual, it offers comfort and a direct connection to their Creator during a time of physical vulnerability, reminding them that their worship continues even through hardship. The Prophet's ﷺ method, mixing saliva and soil, signifies the integration of spiritual supplication with tangible means, a beautiful reminder that Allah is the Healer of all ailments.
