Dua for the Fasting Person Seeking Inner Peace Amidst External Chaos

Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 19005

O Allah, I ask You for a soul at ease, believing in Your meeting, content with Your decree, and satisfied with Your giving.

Allahumma inni as'aluka nafsan bika mutma'innah, tu'minu biliqa'ika, wa tardha biqada'ika, wa taqna'u bi 'ata'ika.

When to Read

This profound supplication is especially fitting during Ramadan, a month dedicated to spiritual reflection and self-discipline. Recite it during the pre-dawn meal (suhoor), after prayers, or during the blessed hours of the night when the heart is most receptive. It's a powerful dua to make when feeling overwhelmed by the world's distractions, seeking solace and tranquility within the sanctity of your fast.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a present heart. Raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Focus on the meaning of each phrase: asking Allah for a soul settled in faith, accepting His divine plan, and finding contentment in whatever He bestows. The act of fasting itself is a spiritual discipline that can help quiet the external noise, making this a perfect time to cultivate inner peace through dua.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking a 'nafsan mutma'innah' – a soul at peace – is a core aspiration for a believer. This dua helps foster deep trust in Allah (Tawakkul), acceptance of His will (Rida), and genuine satisfaction with His blessings. In the context of fasting, this internal state can amplify the spiritual benefits, turning a physical abstention into a profound journey of the heart towards Allah, even when facing life's inevitable trials. Such peace is a sign of Allah's pleasure and a source of strength.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka nafsan bika mutma'innah, tu'minu biliqa'ika, wa tardha biqada'ika, wa taqna'u bi 'ata'ika.' (O Allah, I ask You for a soul at ease, believing in Your meeting, content with Your decree, and satisfied with Your giving.) This hadith, narrated in Musnad Ahmad and authenticated as Hasan, highlights a beautiful and comprehensive request for spiritual stability. It's a reflection of the Prophet's ﷺ own deep connection with Allah and his reliance on Him for inner peace, a state we can all strive for.
