When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly recommended for recitation during the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially on the odd-numbered nights when Laylat al-Qadr is sought. It can be recited frequently throughout these sacred nights as we strive to maximize our worship and seek Allah's forgiveness.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a sincere hope for Allah's forgiveness. Focus on the meaning of the words, acknowledging Allah's attribute of 'Al-'Afuww' (The One Who Pardons). It can be recited individually or in congregation, and it's a beautiful addition to our nightly prayers, dhikr, and moments of quiet reflection.

Virtues & Benefits

The last ten nights of Ramadan are incredibly significant, containing Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree, which is better than a thousand months. Seeking Allah's forgiveness during this time is paramount. This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his wife 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), directly asks for pardon. By reciting it, we are aligning our supplications with the Sunnah, aiming for the immense mercy and forgiveness Allah showers upon His servants during these blessed nights.

Source & Authentication

'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say during it?' He replied: 'Say: Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni (O Allah, You are the Oft-Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me).''
