Virtues & Benefits
Seeking guidance (hidayah) is one of the most fundamental requests a Muslim can make. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this specific wording, indicating its importance. By asking Allah to 'guide me and guide me' (ihdini wahdini), we are emphasizing our profound dependence on Him for both internal spiritual direction and the strength to act upon that guidance. Furthermore, asking to be made 'a guide, one who is guided' (hadiyan mahdiyyan) elevates our supplication. It means we not only want to be on the right path ourselves but also to be a source of good and guidance for others. This transforms personal spiritual growth into a means of benefiting the wider community, reflecting the holistic nature of Islam.

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When any one of you asks Allah for something, he should ask Him for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from the Hellfire. I do not know how to ask Him, but I say: O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and I seek refuge in You from the Hellfire. Then he said: And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught us and commanded us that when we ask Him for something, we should say: O Allah, guide me and guide me and make me a guide, one who is guided.'
