Dua for Remaining Alert and Focused During Suhoor

Ramadan & Fasting
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial to recite during Suhoor, especially after Fajr prayer but before the sun rises. It's a powerful supplication to begin your fast with the intention of seeking blessings in your knowledge, sustenance, and actions throughout the day. It can also be recited at any time you seek these specific blessings.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, raising your hands slightly as you might do for other supplications. Imagine seeking Allah's help in attaining these three valuable things: knowledge that benefits, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that are accepted by Him. It is recommended to say it after the obligatory prayers, though it's not limited to that time.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encapsulates seeking the best of both worlds. Beneficial knowledge guides us to do good and avoid harm. Good provision ensures we are sustained lawfully and can support ourselves and our families without turning to unlawful means. Accepted deeds are those performed sincerely for Allah's sake, which will be rewarded in this life and the next. For those fasting during Ramadan, reciting this at Suhoor is a beautiful way to imbue the meal with spiritual purpose, asking Allah to bless the body and mind for the day ahead.
