Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3845

O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and comfort my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me, from behind me, from my right, from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your magnificence from being taken from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal 'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal 'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamiini wa 'an shimaali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly fitting for Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this supplication to his wife 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked what she should say during this blessed night. It's a powerful prayer for seeking Allah's immense forgiveness and complete well-being, making it ideal for the final, intense nights of Ramadan.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, ideally during the night vigils of the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially on Laylatul Qadr. It's beneficial to understand the meaning of each part of the dua to feel its weight and significance. Raise your hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ, and ask with certainty that Allah will respond. Repetition is encouraged, especially during this blessed time.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound request for both spiritual and worldly well-being. Asking for 'afw (forgiveness) seeks pardon for our sins, while 'afiyah (well-being/health) encompasses protection from all harm and afflictions, both physical and spiritual, in this life and the next. The Prophet's ﷺ instruction highlights its importance for Laylatul Qadr, a night where our destinies are decreed and where prayers are highly accepted.

Source & Authentication

The hadith narrates that 'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah, what if I find Laylatul Qadr, what should I say?' He replied: 'Say: Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal 'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'alukal 'afwa wal 'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamiini wa 'an shimaali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi 'azamatika an ughtala min tahti.' (O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and comfort my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me, from behind me, from my right, from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your magnificence from being taken from beneath me.)
