Dua for Deepening Quranic Connection During Fasting

Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithSunan an-Nasa'i 2594

O Allah, have mercy on me with the Quran, and make it an Imam (leader), a light, a guidance, and a mercy for me. O Allah, remind me of what I forgot from it, and teach me what I was ignorant of, and grant me its recitation during the hours of the night and the ends of the day, and make it an argument for me, O Lord of the worlds.

Allahumma arhamni bil Qur'an, waj'alhu li imaman, wa nooran, wa hudan, wa rahmah. Allahumma dhakkirni minhu ma naseetu, wa 'allimni minhu ma jahiltu, warzuqni tilawatahu ana'al-layli wa atrafan-nahar, waj'alhu li hujjatan ya Rabbal 'alamin.

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent during Ramadan, especially after breaking your fast or during the pre-dawn meal (suhoor). It's a beautiful supplication to make at any time you feel a desire to reconnect with the Quran, seeking Allah's help to absorb its message and let it guide your actions throughout the day and night.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, reflecting on each word. Visualize the Quran becoming a guiding light in your life. It's best recited after completing a portion of your Quran recitation or at a moment of quiet contemplation. Imagine yourself asking Allah directly, seeking His divine assistance to truly benefit from His Book.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication asks Allah to make the Quran a source of mercy, guidance, and illumination in our lives. It seeks help in remembering what we've learned and gaining knowledge of what we don't know. Crucially, it asks for the ability to recite it frequently, which is a means of drawing closer to Allah. Having the Quran as an 'argument for me' means it will testify in our favor on the Day of Judgment, a profound aspiration.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to a companion, seeking divine help to benefit from the Quran. (The full text often cited is the supplication itself, as presented above). The context is a general supplication for a Muslim to benefit from the Quran.
