When to Read
This is a powerful general dua, especially relevant during Ramadan when our focus is on increasing remembrance of Allah and enhancing our worship. Recite it after your obligatory prayers or at any time you feel the need for Allah's assistance in fulfilling your Quranic goals for the month. As you strive to complete the Quran, this supplication is key to seeking Allah's support to make your recitation meaningful and effective.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, seeking Allah's help. Raise your hands as you make dua, as is the Sunnah. Understand the meaning deeply – you are asking for aid in remembrance, gratitude, and excellent worship, all of which are central to engaging with the Quran. Consistent recitation, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan, will help internalize its essence.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses a comprehensive request for divine assistance in the core aspects of our faith: remembering Allah (dhikr), being grateful to Him (shukr), and worshipping Him in the most excellent way (husn 'ibadah). When striving to complete the Quran, especially in Ramadan, these elements are crucial. Achieving good remembrance makes our recitation more conscious, gratitude enhances our appreciation for Allah's words, and excellent worship ensures our connection with Allah is strengthened through His Book. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) and instructed him to say it after every prayer.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ took my hand and said, 'O Mu'adh, by Allah, I love you, and I say, 'O Allah, help me in all my affairs. Do not entrust me to myself for the twinkling of an eye.' (or 'for even less than that'). He then said: 'Say, O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner.'
