Dua for Completing Taraweeh Prayer

Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 910

Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance.

Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited after finishing the Taraweeh prayer, just as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often say it after completing any gathering or sitting. It serves as a beautiful way to conclude the spiritual session of Taraweeh, seeking forgiveness and acknowledging Allah's perfection after a period of intense worship and reflection.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and presence of mind. Reflect on the meaning of each phrase: glorifying Allah, testifying to His oneness, and seeking His forgiveness. It's a moment to reconnect with your Lord after dedicating time to His worship. Ensure you are in a state of Wudu if possible, though it is not strictly a requirement for this specific dua.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful means of expiating any shortcomings or unintentional mistakes made during the prayer or the entire gathering. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever says this in the morning, it will be imprinted on his seal, and it will be erased by night; whoever says it in the evening, it will be imprinted on his seal, and it will be erased by morning.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 910). By reciting it after Taraweeh, we aim to have our worship accepted and our sins forgiven, a profound benefit after a night of devotion.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever sits in a gathering and there is a lot of meaningless talk in it, and before he leaves, he says: Glorified are You, O Allah, and all praise is due to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance. Then whatever was in that gathering will be expiated for.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 910). Although this hadith refers to a general gathering, scholars have extended its application to the end of any period of worship or assembly, including the completion of Taraweeh prayer.
