Dua for Acceptance of Ramadan Fasting and Deeds

Ramadan & Fasting
Hasan HadithAl-Mustadrak al-Hakim 1988

اللَّهُمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا صِيَامَنَا وَقِيَامَنَا وَسَائِرَ أَعْمَالِنَا.

O Allah, accept from us our fasting and our prayers and all our deeds.

Allahumma taqabbal minna siyamana wa qiyamana wa sa'ira a'malina.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited throughout Ramadan, especially after completing acts of worship like Taraweeh prayers or after the end of a day of fasting. It's particularly poignant during the last ten nights, as we seek Allah's acceptance of our efforts before the month concludes.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and humility, reflecting on your intentions and efforts during the month. Raise your hands in supplication as you normally would for dua. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking Allah to look favorably upon your worship and accept it from you. It is recommended to make this dua while in prostration during prayer as well, for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that the closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating (Sahih Muslim 482).

Virtues & Benefits

The primary benefit of this dua is seeking Allah's acceptance (taqabbul) of our acts of worship. In Ramadan, we strive to fast, pray, read Quran, and give charity – all valuable deeds. However, true benefit comes from Allah's acceptance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Indeed, Allah does not look at your bodies, nor at your forms, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.' (Sahih Muslim 2564). Therefore, asking for acceptance is crucial for our efforts to be truly rewarded. This dua encompasses all our worship ('sa'ira a'malina'), showing that we desire Allah's pleasure in all aspects of our Ramadan experience.

Source & Authentication

The narration where this dua is found is often quoted as an action or supplication made by the companions, indicating its widespread use and acceptance among them. While not a direct command from the Prophet ﷺ in the exact wording, its meaning aligns perfectly with the spirit of seeking Allah's acceptance of all good deeds. The full context is often found in compilations of supplications and practices of the righteous. For instance, Al-Hafiz ibn Hajar al-Asqalani mentions similar supplications in his works, highlighting the importance of seeking acceptance.
