Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua directly addresses the roots of anxiety and overthinking. By seeking refuge in Allah from worry (hamm) and grief (hazan), we acknowledge that true peace comes only from Him. Seeking protection from helplessness ('ajz) and laziness (kasal) combats the inertia that overthinking can induce. Protection from cowardice (jubn) and stinginess (buhl) strengthens our resolve and generosity, which are often affected by anxious thoughts. Finally, seeking refuge from debt and overpowering men addresses external pressures that can fuel inner turmoil. This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, equips us with a direct line to Allah for safeguarding our mental and emotional well-being.
