اللَّهُمَّ لاَ طَيْرَ إِلاَّ طَيْرُكَ وَلاَ خَيْرَ إِلاَّ خَيْرُكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ
O Allah, there is no omen except Your omen, and no goodness except Your goodness, and no god besides You.
Allahumma la tayra illa tayruk, wa la khaira illa khairuk, wa la ilaha ghayruk
When to Read
This dua is recited when one experiences something that might be perceived as a bad omen, whether it's a specific event, a feeling, or a thought that causes unease. It's a way to immediately turn to Allah and affirm trust in His decree, rather than succumbing to superstition or fear.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely, with your heart focused on Allah's power and wisdom. Understand that true control and goodness come only from Him. It's best recited immediately upon feeling the unease of a potential bad omen.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly counters the un-Islamic concept of 'tiyarah' (superstition about omens) by placing trust solely in Allah. It reinforces the belief that nothing happens without His permission and that all true goodness originates from Him. By reciting this, one seeks Allah's protection against any negative psychological impact of perceived bad omens, thereby maintaining peace of mind and a strong connection with the Creator.
Source & Authentication
Ibn Mas'ud reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Tiyarah (believing in omens) is Al-Shirk. Tiyarah is Al-Shirk. Tiyarah is Al-Shirk. And none of us, but (we have a trace of it), but Allah removes it by reliance on Him (Tawakkul). (The mention of Tawakkul implies reciting the dua): O Allah, there is no omen except Your omen, and no goodness except Your goodness, and no god except You.'
