اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى.
O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment (or richness).
Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.
When to Read
This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited at any time, especially during your daily prayers (after Tashahhud and before Taslim) or at any moment you feel the need for Allah's guidance and provision. It's particularly beneficial when reflecting on your worldly state and seeking balance.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, directing your heart and mind towards Allah. Visualize the concepts of guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment. Raising your hands slightly is a permissible way to make dua, following the general sunnah. Make it a habit, perhaps reciting it once or twice daily.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua beautifully encapsulates a request for holistic well-being. 'Al-huda' (guidance) is the light that directs us. 'At-tuqa' (piety) is the consciousness of Allah that safeguards us. 'Al-'afaf' (chastity/abstinence) protects us from unlawful desires and begging. 'Al-ghina' (contentment/richness) isn't just about wealth, but more importantly, the inner richness that comes from being satisfied with Allah's decree, whether in poverty or prosperity. By asking for these, we are seeking protection from the extremes of both poverty and excessive wealth, and the trials each can bring.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.' (O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment).
