A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq

When to Read

This powerful dua is for seeking Allah's protection against any harm, including the 'evil eye' (al-'ayn). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite it when we fear any kind of affliction or the negative impact of an envious glance. It's a beautiful practice to incorporate regularly, perhaps in the morning and evening, or whenever you feel a need for extra spiritual fortification. You can also recite it over yourself, your children, or anything you wish to protect.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere belief and conviction in Allah's power to protect. As taught by the Prophet ﷺ, you would typically recite it three times. It is also recommended to blow gently onto yourself or the person/thing you are seeking to protect after reciting. The emphasis is on pure intention and reliance solely on Allah (Tawakkul).

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a direct teaching from our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, offering immense spiritual protection. By seeking refuge in Allah's 'perfect words,' we are invoking His supreme power against all created evils, which inherently includes the ill effects of the evil eye. The Prophet ﷺ himself used this dua for protection, demonstrating its efficacy. It cultivates a deep sense of reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) and reminds us that no harm can befall us except by His permission.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'None among you is going to receive protection from Allah by virtue of anything better than supplication (Du'a).' (Sahih Muslim 2708). Another narration mentions that when the Prophet ﷺ was seeking refuge for Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), he used to say: 'I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from every devil and every poisonous creature and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'It was declared that each of you should recite this supplication for the like of these children.'
