Narrated by Abdullah ibn Ghannam (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'He who says in the morning: *Bismillahilladhi la yaduru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Samee'ul-Aleem* (In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) - he will not be afflicted by any calamity until the evening, and he who says it in the evening, he will not be afflicted by any calamity until the morning.' [Sunan Abi Dawud 5088, graded Sahih by Al-Albani]. Another narration by Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) states: 'I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ say: 'No servant says in the morning of each day and in the night of each evening: *Bismillahilladhi la yaduru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Samee'ul-Aleem* (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on Earth or in Heaven can cause hurt, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing), three times, but that he will not be afflicted by anything suddenly (balâ') until morning, and he will not be afflicted by anything suddenly until evening.' Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was afflicted with some paralysis, and he started looking at the person who narrated the hadith to him and said: 'What is wrong with you? By Allah, I did not narrate it falsely to you, but the command of Allah is (unavoidable).' [Sunan Abi Dawud 5087, graded Sahih by Al-Albani]
