Dua for Protection While Setting Out on a Journey

Protection
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1342

Glory be to Him Who has subjected this (transport) to us, and we could never have accomplished it by ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in our journey, and in deeds which please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us, and make its distance short for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor (to guard) the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, and from the distress of seeing evil, and from the evil turn of events in wealth and family.

Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinun. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-'amali ma tarda. Allahumma hawwin 'alayna safarana hadha, watwi 'anna bu'dahu. Allahumma Antas-Sahibu fis-safari, wal-Khaleefatu fil-ahl. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safari, wa ka'abatil-mandhari, wa su'il-munqalabi fil-mali wal-ahl.

Source & Authentication

Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mounted his camel for the journey, he would say 'Allahu Akbar' three times. Then he would say: 'Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished it by ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in our journey, and in deeds which please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us, and make its distance short for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor (to guard) the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, and from the distress of seeing evil, and from the evil turn of events in wealth and family.' And when he returned, he recited these words, and said: 'We are returning in repentance, worshipping, praising our Lord.'
