أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This powerful dua is perfect for reciting anytime you feel concerned about your children's safety, whether from physical harm, negative influences, or unseen evils. It's especially recommended to read it when tucking your children into bed, before they go out to play, or when they are away from you. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a general means of seeking Allah's protection.
How to Read
You can recite this dua yourself and blow gently onto your child, or have them recite it themselves if they are old enough to understand. It's also beneficial to recite it and then make a general supplication for Allah's protection over your children. Ensure your heart is present, truly seeking refuge in Allah, the Almighty, the Protector.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a potent shield. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked about the best way to seek refuge for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), he recited this very dua. This indicates its immense power and suitability for protecting our own children from all forms of evil, both apparent and hidden. It reminds us that Allah's words are perfect and hold ultimate power over creation.
