بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ
May Allah bless you.
*Barakallahu feek*
When to Read
When someone expresses admiration for your possessions, health, family, or any other blessing, recite this dua to acknowledge Allah and seek His protection for the admired blessing. It's a way to gently deflect potential envy and turn the admiration into a prayer. Imagine a friend marveling at your new home, or a relative admiring your child's good behavior. Instead of just saying 'thank you,' responding with '*Barakallahu feek*' is a Sunnah-based way to safeguard that blessing.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely after someone expresses admiration for something you have been blessed with. It’s a subtle yet powerful way to seek Allah's protection. The intention is key: to seek Allah's blessing and protection for the person admiring and for the blessing itself. While the wording is simple, the spiritual weight is immense when uttered with true reliance on Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This simple phrase is a Sunnah practice that serves multiple purposes: 1. **Seeking Allah's Blessing:** It invokes Allah's blessing upon the person admiring and the admired item/person, turning a potentially dangerous moment (due to envy) into a moment of seeking divine favor. 2. **Protection from Envy (Hasad):** By attributing the blessing to Allah and asking for His blessing upon it, you are essentially asking Him to protect it from the evil eye or envious glances. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that envy is real and can harm. 3. **Humility and Tawakkul:** It reminds both parties that all blessings are from Allah alone, fostering humility and strengthening reliance (tawakkul) on Him for their preservation. Imam al-Ghazali and other scholars have discussed how such utterances, when sincere, act as a spiritual shield.

Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif narrated that his father told him: 'Amir bin Rabi'ah narrated to him that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'When one of you sees something from his brother that impresses him, let him supplicate for him (i.e., invoke Allah to bless it for him).' Abu Umamah said: 'So when 'Amir saw Sahl's garden, he started supplicating for him. Sahl went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He ﷺ said: 'Why did you not say: *Barakallahu feek* (May Allah bless it for you)?' Supplication is a shield against the evil of the eye (envy).' *— Related in Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 5925, and Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 2135.*
