When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited when you feel the ill effects of envy, or suspect someone's jealous gaze is causing harm. It's a proactive measure to take when you sense negative energy directed towards you, your family, or your possessions, and also as a general protection against hidden evils.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, focusing on your intention for seeking Allah's protection. You can say it once or repeat it three times for added emphasis. Imagine Allah's shield surrounding you as you utter these words. It can be recited aloud or silently, especially when you are alone or in the company of those you trust.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the source of the affliction: the hidden and feared evils that can stem from envy. By seeking refuge in Allah's essence and His absolute power, you affirm your Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and acknowledge that no harm can befall you except by His permission. It’s a profound act of reliance on the Almighty, reminding us that true protection comes only from Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she complained of feeling unwell due to envy, demonstrating its efficacy in alleviating such afflictions.

And when he suffered from the pains of his illness, he would recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas and blow (on himself). Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ became seriously ill, I used to read (these two Surahs) and rub his hands with my own hands because of its goodness. Another narration: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said to her: 'When one of you is ailing, the angel of the earth thus starts when it begins to move: 'Do you know what is ailing him?' He said: 'When one of you falls ill, or has a wound, he should place his hand on it and say: > **Arabic:** بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ > **Translation:** "In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of what I find and what I fear." > **Transliteration:** *Bismillah, a'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir.* — Sahih Muslim 2208
